Not that much. But apartment laws is really bad in Denmark compared to Sweden, what I heard of friends who lived there. Like getting back a deposit is almost impossible. Denmark also have less strict alcohol laws and better festivals than Sweden.

2

u/Lumisateessa 1d ago

I've gotten all my deposits back. They take a chunk from the deposit to pay for repairs and painting the apartment after moving. If you smoked inside and the walls are nicotine stained, then they have to clean the walls on top of it, which will cost you more. Oh, and if you didn't clean properly after moving out then the cost for a cleaning crew will also fall on you. I find all those rules fair.

2

u/Sir_i88 1d ago

That does indeed sound fair. Maybe my friends have just gotten a bad deal. Some of them were student housing. But one of them got lawyers and stuff involved so everyone that were affected at tha time got their money back.

2

u/blueeyebling 2d ago

Fun story I got written up at Staples because I was listening to an RJ-D2 pandora station and a customer complained about that song. Makes it better is it was after hours, and the customer forced the doors open to get in. I hadn't closed the registers yet though so let them get their things and waited to ring them up to count down the last drawer. No good deed goes unpunished.

2

u/handlebartender 2d ago

People too often need something to complain about.

That song and the video are pure art to me.

29

u/the_than_then_guy 2d ago edited 2d ago

It will always work out that way (edit: if the first part is true, then the second part will always be true, is what I mean by "always").

Think about it this way, "A" is the first three letters of the first team, "B" the first three letters fo the second team, "C" is the remaining of the first team, and "D" is the remaining letters of the second team.

So the first team's name is A-C, and the second team's name is B-D.

This only works when "B" is the same as "C" so that A-B (the way the letters are set on the scoreboard) is the same as "A-C," thus completing the first team's name.

When that happens, the remaining letters unused are "C-D," but we've already established that C and B are the same, so they write as "B-D."

14

u/skarby 2d ago

Less complicated way of saying this: last 3 letters of the first team are the same as first three of the second. Remove the first 3 of the second team for the scoreboard, and the three remaining from the first team will always be the ones missing.

10

u/FeDeWould-be 2d ago

Faster way of explaining: If the last 3 letters of the first team are the same as the first 3 letters of the second team, nothing changes when the letters are swapped.

3

u/TehSalmonOfDoubt 2d ago

Name swap make same

When displaying a country in the first slot with 6 letters and a matching country in the second slot where country 1's letters 4-6 match country 2's letters 1-3 this will always work.

Note, this is for 3 - 3 displays. Obviously you can extend it for n-n displays by replacing 3 with n and 4 with n+1 and 6 with n*2 ?

the question is, are there any other ways that this could occur? or is this all cases?

3

u/FrivolousPositioning 2d ago

Yeah unless you use almost any other combination of countries. Like Canada and Belarus, no such thing as Canarus or Belada

5

u/the_than_then_guy 2d ago

Yeah, I meant that whenever the first part is true, the second party will always be true. That's the part that seems to really blow people's minds, but it's actually the same thing rearranged.

7

u/csorfab 2d ago

Yeah, you completely missed the point, though

-6

u/FrivolousPositioning 2d ago

I'm not sure the point is really relevant. It will "always" work out as long as you use only very specific countries. Not exactly an amazing revelation.

8

u/Scoot_AG 2d ago

It's not that it will "always work out." it's a proof, if the first part is true (specific parameters of countries) then the latter is true. That's the point, and you missed it

-6

u/FrivolousPositioning 2d ago

It'll almost never work out that way practically so presenting this "proof" as something relevant to the comments here is misleading. It worked out because you chose two certain countries. Russia and Cyprus was an additional one. Are there more? Maybe a couple.

3

u/RanaMahal 2d ago

No? Dude... If the first 3 letters of each country combined spell out one of the countries names, the leftovers will always spell out the other country. It's a proof as in an equation.

If A + B = C then D + E will always = F

So if Swe(den) + Den(mark) = Sweden then the leftovers will always = the other country in this case Denmark.

That's what they're saying is that it's unnecessary to say "oh and the leftover letters also make up Russia!" because they always will...

tl;dr if the first 3 letters of each put together work then the rest of the letters will too. always.

u/fugmalaf 2d ago

0

u/angry_queef_master 2d ago edited 2d ago

No it won't. If Cyprus were spelled Cypras then it wouldn't work.

EDIT: Disregard I'm dumb and drunk right now

5

u/the_than_then_guy 2d ago

In that case, the first part wouldn't be true anymore either. The screen would show "Cyp-Rus," which wouldn't be interesting since the name of the country is now "Cypras."

Either both are true, or neither are true.

→ More replies

3

u/RanaMahal 2d ago

then it wouldn't have worked in the first place...

→ More replies

3

u/lukwes1 2d ago

By definition if the countries beginning togheter match the first name, the unused letters WILL ALWAYS be the 2nd country, because think about it. The end of the first three match the beginning of 2nd one. That we already know. And the second part of the second country will of course be the 2nd part of the 2nd country.

5

u/Abbacoverband 2d ago

4

u/Fried_Cthulhumari 2d ago

Yes, Northern Ireland. A wonderful example of a country unplagued by racial strife. Perhaps that's because of -checks notes- centuries of religious sectarian violence?

Ahh well... maybe you meant Germany. What are the odds they have a glaringly obvious history of fomenting hatred for a minority group as a scapegoat for economic disruption and disparity?

There are a lot of legitimate ways to criticize "some countries", and deservedly so. And your comment may be the absolute poorest attempt to do so I've seen on Reddit.

-1

u/CHOOSE_A_USERNAME984 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well, a German tv channel got a little shitstorm in 2014 for putting Nigeria with nig when they played against us so it also depends on who is showing the game and who made the graphics

Edit: I may have fallen for some satirical news site

10

u/scumah 2d ago

The FIFA country codes are a standard, they depend on the FIFA and that's it. Also, the NIG-GER thing never happened, it was just a screenshot of a FIFA, the videogame, game. It could happen though if Niger played Germany as local, which hasn't ever happened.

It's a simple rule that makes this work:

Country1 must have 6 letters, and the last 3 must be identical to the first 3 of Country2. Works for these 4 combinations of countries:

  • Sweden vs Denmark
  • Poland vs Andorra
  • Cyprus vs Russia
  • Bhutan vs Tanzania

No other combinations exist

The remaining letters producing the other country's name is not special at all... it would be true for any other example also, by definition remaining letters must result in the other country's name.

Sweden Denmark

If combining the first halves results in the full name of one country, then the missing half must be part of the other country's name, and of course, the other missing half already is part of its name.
